Brief Kenyan Historical Events in the month of October Continued by Karanja

- October, 1855 Rev. Johannes Rebmann and Jacob Erhardt publish a sketch map of East Africa. The primary feature were Lakes Victoria, Tanganyika and Malawi which were presented as one huge body of water. This ignigted a lot of interest in the geography of East Africa.

- October, 1876 Rev. Johannes Rebmann dies at Kornthal.

- October, 1871 Rev. Charles New returns to Rabbai from Kilimanjaro. He is remembered as the first person to confirm the precense of snow on My Kilimanjaro.

- October, 1856 Seyyid Said dies near the Seychelles islands while returning to Zanzibar. At once, three of his sons start fighting for their father's kingdom.

- October, 1876 The Egyptian government attempts to extend their country all the way to the East Africa coast by sending a warship to Kismayu.

- October, 1883 Joseph Thompson sees Mt. Kenya and confirms the presence of snow on top of it. This was the first publshed confirmation since Dr. Krapf's sighting 30 years previously.

- October, 1884 Johnston in mt Kilimanjaro area. He had concluded a treaty at Taveta which was instrumental in the drawing of the Kenya-Tanzania border.

- October, 1886 The Anglo-French-German boundary Commission (which laid the foundation of the present day Kenya-Tanzania border) completes its deliberations.

- October, 1888 Samuel Teleki returns to Mombasa. Teleki claimed to have "discovered" Lake Turkana and he named it Lake Rudolph (after his friend Crown Prince Rudolph)
