Kiambu ‘prodigal son’ beaten by brothers for returning home penniless after selling Sh3.5 million land

A Kenyan man was beaten by his brothers after returning to his home at Kimuga village in Kiambu county penniless six months later.

Fredrick Kihara, 40, who had sold his four-acre piece of family land at Sh3.5 million, returned a week ago from the coast resort of Mombasa.

His brothers said his 35-year-old wife and two children were taken in by their mother after he left them squatting on the piece of land without basic needs.

James Ngigi said they were irked when a drunken Kihara asked for more land from their mother.

Ngigi said Kihara had been trying to convince their mother to sell him her piece of land without their knowledge.

An elder urged them to emulate the family of the biblical prodigal son amid neighbours’ efforts to stop them from beating Kihara.

They however continued beating him saying the biblical approach was impractical in their case.

While cautioning Kihara against asking for more land, they asked asked to find a job and fend for his family.
