Kenyan Pastor's Fellowship Launches Term-Life Insurance to Help Kenyans, Lowell MA on Jamhuri Day last year - Continued - Lots of Photos below Article by Sam Mwaura

On Jamhuri Day 2010, Kenyans from all walks of life united together in a historic Celebration organized by the Kenyan Pastors' Fellowship (KPF). The event was attended by over 30 Christian Ministers and 350 plus people who congregated together at Community Christian Fellowship (CCF) to commemorate 47 years of Kenya's Independence from the British.

Her Excellency Dr. Josephine Ojiambo the Kenyan Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries who attended the very successful occasion were Senator Stephen Panagoitakos (MA State Senate) and James L. Miliozzo (Lowell Mayor). The event was hosted by Bishop David Karaya, a Co-pastor of CCF Lowell who is also the KPF President. Also, among other pastors were the Senior Pastor of CCF, Raffoul Najem and the Co-Pastor Elvira "Vi" Whitcomb of CCF Lowell were also present

The occasion featured several activities. The main one was the launching of an affordable term-life insurance for all Kenyans especially those that cannot afford one through other means (See details below). It was the culmination of a huge, challenging and rigorous process undertaken by a task force mandated by KPF. It is an attempt by the Kenyan Community leaders to bring an end to funeral and burial fundraisings in our community. According to reliable statistics, in the past 2 years, Kenyan Pastors in the New England area and their congregations have contributed over half a million Dollars to repatriate bodies home.

While addressing the attentive audience, the task-force Chairman Mr. Paul Muite to seek for the right information about this undertaking and not to be distracted by hate and rumor mongers whose agenda is to fail the Pastor's great effort. He dispelled the notion that Pastors were selling insurance clarifying that they were actually recommending it and allowing the people to make a choice of what to buy. He told the people that the Pastors role in this was to encourage everyone to buy a term-life insurance policy of their choice and not specifically the one recommended by them. Dr. Newton Were also applauded the efforts made by the community leaders and beseeched all the people to rally behind them and advance the community. A woman spokesman from Worcester, MA testified of the great efforts made by the servants of God and pleaded with the people to support them.

In her main speech, H.E. Dr. Josephine Ojiambo delivered greetings from the President H.E. Hon. Mwai Kibaki and the Kenyan Government. She appreciated the great work done by the Pastors to help the community. Excitement and celebration rent the air when Dr. Ojiambo revealed that
her childhood home was 24 Park St, Cambridge, MA. She lived there with her family while her mother Hon. Dr. Julia Ojiambo was studying at Havard University. H.E Dr. Ojiambo highlighted the great developments that have taken place in our country including the adoption of a new constitution, better infrastructure and free primary and secondary education. She encouraged people in the diaspora to support and develop their nation in terms of investing and also returning to vie for civic, parliamentary and other public seats especially those stipulated in the new constitution. She also welcomed all the people to visit her office and take advantage of the many services offered. She also offered to work with all the people to develop the Kenyan community in the diaspora. She was accompanied by her 4 children and Bishop Dr. Francis Kamau, a reknown Gospel Minister from Nairobi, Kenya. In a joint effort, H.E Dr. Ojiambo launched the insurance while Rev. Dr. Kamau made a prayer of dedication. In her speech, the Ambassador also gave medical and health advice encouraging the people to eat healthy. She encouraged positive reporting by the media noting that some of them were biased and negative in their reporting.

Mayor Jim Miliozzo of Lowell City gave a speech and presented an award/citation to KPF. He appreciated the work done by Kenyans in the Lowell city noting that the Lowell public school system had a huge population of Kenyan children. Senator Stephen Panagoitakos who represented the 40 Massachusetts State Senators also gave a speech. He thanked the Kenyan community at large for their hard work, unity and love for one another. He too presented KPF with an award/citation of excellence for their great effort of leading the community selflessly.

The occasion also featured an inspiring session of Praise and Worship led by Rev. Elizabeth Nyambura and a group of local Kenyan Gospel Singers.

The American and Kenyan anthems were led by Ms. Vicky Waiyaki and Mr. Wilfred Tinega respectively. Prayers for both countries were offered by different Pastors. There was also a refreshing session of entertainment which featured a dance, a poem and several songs. The most exciting was a Swahili patriotic poem (Shairi) by Rev. Cyrus Maina of St. John's Anglican Church, Worcester. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Dr. Joseph Kimatu of Tumaini Community Church who is also the KPF Vice-President.

All the people joined together to eat and drink after the occasion. KPF announced their next project of developing the community.

In conjunction with the office of the Ambassador, they are seeking for a way of getting updated identity and voter's cards for the people that need them in the community. Please look out for more information from KPF soon. More Photos below!

SUMMARY OF KENYAN TERM LIFE INSURANCE
The committee evaluated various insurance policies that were submitted. The goal was to identify an affordable group term life insurance policy for the Kenya Community in the US. The committee compared a variety of term life insurance policies that were presented and concluded that National Association of self employed (NASE) had the best to offer so far. This was based on the fact that;
1. National Association of self employed (NASE) is a nationwide organization that is able to get discounted insurance costs for its members because of its excessive membership number
2. Not all insurance companies that gave us quotations were based in U.S. individual age and past health status played a significant role in their pricing policies.
3. Some benefits were not uniformly available for all states.
4. Legal residence and individual Immigration status was required by other insurance companies.
5. Medical examinations, blood work, and prior preexisting conditions were reasons for coverage denials in many policies. NASE had no medical examination requirement. pre-existing condition was no a base for denial.
6. NASE industry ratings (AAA) was one of the highest in the Insurance industry
NASE’s Gold membership Term life rate is $45.00/ month per family regardless of the age and the number of people in the family.-Payoff on natural death is $20,000.00 Accidental death $30,000.00.

What would happen to you if you were confined to a hospital? Can you afford to find out? Even if you have a disability policy in effect, most likely you will have a waiting period of 30-90 days. Could you survive that long?

NASE Members receive even greater piece of mind with this coverage offered as part of the Membership.
